This week I’m in London meeting with all of my creative collaborators - composer, costume designer, production manager - which is fantastic and brings with it lots of stimulating discussion of ideas and lots and lots of questions - many of which I don’t have answers to….yet!
Luckily for me my Assistant Choreographer, Rachel Kay (of Kay and Queen) doesn’t allow my potential diva ways and just makes me focus! This focus allowed us, this afternoon, to develop the first, very rough, draft of the overall piece, which seems to be much sought after. There are no guarantees that it is as it will be in the end but it feels GREAT to finally have a real overview and through line.
I have never worked in this way before but then I’ve never made a piece of this size before. I have never gone into a making process so informed or with such a clear plan or structure. I am used to setting tasks, gathering material and structuring the piece as it develops in the studio. I’m really looking forward to seeing how this new technique is going to work for me.
